MARTHA’S VINEYARD BIKE RIDE
Saturday October 1st 9:00 am sharp
Come and join the members of Fleet 448 on a bike ride through the beautiful island of Martha’s Vineyard
If you have never been to this beautiful Island, here is your chance.
Come One Come All!
We will be sailing to the Island on The Steamship Authority from Woods Hole, Massachusetts. Bring some cash for lunch and shopping. We will be starting the bike ride in the town of Vineyard Haven, then off to the Town of Oak Bluffs, and then across island to Edgartown and South Beach. Its been 5 years since we have rode this island, so what’s old is new again.

2011 Fleet 448 membership fees are now due.

WHY? Your membership supports the Fleet activities that we run throughout the sailing season. Many of our events do not make money for the fleet since we try to charge nominal fees that in most cases do not cover the costs of food, paper goods, port-a-johns etc. It is extremely difficult to plan for food for our events since sailing is such a weather dependent activity. And we never want to run short for those spectacular days when we get great attendance. So, we are often spending more than we take in for our planned events. This works for us only because we have so many members supporting Fleet 448 through their dues.
Many members now get much of their information on-line, but maintaining our schedule on-line is still time consuming for the members that offer to help us do that. And, since many members still want to get a hard-copy newsletter, we try to send one out at least 4-5 times per year.
All of our officers, event coordinators and volunteers are unpaid. The best thing you can do to support local catamaran sailing, and to show your support for the Fleet members that spend a lot of time planning, communicating and running events, is to let us know that you appreciate the efforts of the Fleet by paying your annual dues. $25 per year is about the cost of having one meal in a restaurant, or one night at the movies. We are confident that we can provide you with $25 worth of fun, camaraderie, information, and activities during the 2011 sailing season. First time members can join for just $15.
And if that is not enough, remember that Fleet 448 members receive a 10% discount on most parts and accessories at our local Hobie dealer— Megrew’s Boats in Charlestown RI.
